I found it to be a wonderful change from having to wear a mask or something like that on the airplane. Because the whole point is to block off any bacteria or viral stuff that’s in the air for me personally it’s while I’m on an airplane for you or anybody else it may be for the subway or out in the city or anywhere where you may be getting a lot of germs. And you’ve got to do it so that the entire nasal passage is closed off by this little thingamajig so that both nasal passages end up closed off and your breathing through this fabric. The hard part to this is that you’ve got to get this all around the outside of your nose surrounding your nasal passage. They’re kind a like Band-Aid-ish and that they have a little bit of fabric surrounded by a little bit of a sticky thing. However there is a bit of a learning curve to putting these things in. And the big thing-I even forget I'm wearing them sometimes unless I go by a mirror.įirst off I’d like to say that this is a wonderful idea and that they do work as advertised. But, with First Defense, I can tell a difference in my breathing, and notice less coughing. I don't mean to be complaining, but I feel a burning sensation in my nose, and sometimes even down into my lungs if I accidentally breathe in smoke. Right now I'm taking one antihistamine and have two inhalers-one rescue inhaler, and one steroid.

I doubt that I will ever be totally free of medication. And they really lowered the amount of air I was getting, and didn't filter the smoke as well. If I get them to fit one nostril, they hurt in the other one.

After trial and error, I concluded my nostrils are different sizes. I tried filters that are inserted into the nose, but first I couldn't find the correct size. All of them were at least as unsightly as the surgical masks (one was worse). Another one worked temporarily, but didn't last long at all and had to be frequently replaced in order to continue working. One, which worked temporarily, was heavy and uncomfortable, and caused me to have an upper respiratory allergy when I left it on a long time. I tried several different kinds of carbon filter masks. Masks do next to nothing to reduce smoke for me. Surgical masks can be hot and uncomfortable, and are definitely unsightly. I have tried all kinds of things to filter my breathing and lessen my exposure to allergens. I suspect that there was some other reason this person couldn't use them. Well, according to the government, I'm a senior citizen-that is if the receipt of Medicare counts. I read the reviews, and one person who is a senior citizen said they didn't work for her. I really haven't used these for a rapid walk yet, so I don't know if I'll still be able to get my breath then.

In this kind of situation, I don't even smell the smoke when I have these on! And now I have them in a smaller size which fits me better. In the past that has been an immediate headache, or worse, for me. I needed something that would help if I was suddenly was exposed to unexpected cigarette smoke-for example, in a drive thru and someone lights up in the car ahead off me while I have my window down. All kinds of smoke, particularly cigarette smoke causes me problems. But they work better than anything I've ever tried for what I want then for.
